Last week I was telling you about my love of fall sports. I love fall sports.
I love being a sports mom now that my kids are getting old enough to play team sports, and I love watching professional sports. From football to hockey to baseball, the fall has all my favorites. But football? Football was my childhood. Specifically, Redskins football.
So today we’re talking about NFL Game Day Style for ladies. Yes, style. Because I may be a sports mom but I don’t have to be a frumpy sports mom. When you lose 50 pounds, you need all new clothes and that includes things for NFL Game Day!
Growing up in a house full of diehard Redskins fans meant that one of the first songs I learned to play on the piano was “Hail to the Redskins”. No joke.
It meant we had Redskins Christmas tree ornaments, Redskins glasses that we drank out of at dinnertime, and Redskins coffee mugs that I used for hot cocoa as a kid.
Even the dog had a Redskins sweater and my parents would parade him around the neighborhood on game days.
Did I mention we liked the Redskins?
I recall one time when my dad gave me and my brother a quiz on player names and jersey numbers. I won, my brother lost. I was victorious. The Redskins trivia champion of the house.
In college (which was pre-the-internet and pre-cell phones, geez I feel old), my parents and I had a standing phone call on Sundays for me to check in on how my week at school was. I was 10 hours away and this was our only time all week to chat.
God forbid I hadn’t checked the Redskins schedule first and called during the game.
But the one thing we didn’t have was clothes that worked for me. If you were a female Redskins fan and wanted to dress in Redskins apparel, you had your choice of: boxy men’s jersey or boxy men’s jersey. Even the small size was too big.
So it’s really exciting to me that we grown-up female sports fans (and grown up sports moms who likes to wear sporty clothes!) have some great options these days. The NFL Shop has really taken the female fan to heart and created a line of clothes that not only look great for watching the game, but for going out and about in our daily lives as well.
I love this “baseball” shirt because it’s exactly the type of thing I’d wear to watch the game with my dad, but also out doing errands, or to my kids’ sporting events.
I paired it with skinny black jeans and tall black boots – it’s comfy and I feel great.
Casual but cute.
I also picked up another Redskins shirt because I couldn’t resist the cute style. It has a “burnout” look where it’s partly sheer pattern, and after having another shirt in this material I was excited to see it on the NFL Shop. It’s in the Alyssa Milano line, which is all really cute.
The back has this cute pattern, which totally sold me on the shirt.
It’s really soft and it comes in short-sleeved too.
We have an au pair who lives with us every year, each coming from a different country. It’s fun to introduce them to American Football and give them the inside peek into an American household on NFL game day. Our current au pair is from Denmark and finds it fascinating.
I love the options out there for NFL game day style these days, and encourage you to check out the fun apparel at the NFL Shop. It was easy to sort by clothing for ladies and pick the team that you want to represent.
