Wrapping Up the Triathlon Season

So, my friends… all’s been quiet here for a while. But you know me, that doesn’t mean that nothing’s been going on! In fact, quite the opposite. After IRONMAN Lake Placid, I had a little downtime. I took a step back from a few things and tried to spend some extra quality time with my kids, and catch up on “life”.

My daughter came with me to work one day, and we had some nice mother-daughter bonding time.

I spent a few days taking my kids to the beach.

We watched the solar eclipse, which they all thought was really cool.

Not pictured, my middle child, who took the photo!

We hit Funland, where I poured money down a black hole, which was entirely worth it to see them having so much fun.

I biked with my dad, who was staying in a nearby town at the beach.

I tried to chill a bit, but then I was a single mom at the beach with 4 kids (my daughter brought a friend) and it left me needing a vacation from my vacation. My kids are pretty good overall, but it was still kind of nonstop.

Back on the homefront, I took my kids to the pool as a staple part of late summer weekends.

I also spent quality time with friends – here’s just a few of my triathlete friends who have made such a difference in my life the past year!

In exciting news, I moderated a panel of elite triathletes from the DC Tri Club, as a kickoff event to the Women’s Multisport Program. It was an honor to be a part of the panel and get to know these awesome ladies! I’m inspired by their strength and determination and how this sport has changed them and influenced them.

So all this sounds like all fun and games, doesn’t it? Well, there was still work to be done – I had ONE MORE RACE to train for that was coming up quickly. So I did a solid 43+mile bike ride with friends up Sugarloaf Mountain.

I did an open water swim with friends.

We followed it up with a run.

And then it was time for that one last triathlon of the year. The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships. I had the privilege of working the whole week for the IRONMAN Foundation doing their social media in Chattanooga, and also participating in the Women’s race on Saturday. It only comes to the USA every few years so this was a unique opportunity. It was an honor to support the Foundation and the work that they do giving back to race communities to make a positive impact. It was a really tough course and was my slowest 70.3, but I was proud to have completed this world championship-level course almost 4 years to the day after doing my first Iron Girl triathlon. More to come on that race as I catch up!

So that’s a wrap on what’s been going on in my life. I’m out of my step-back-funk and will be posting more regularly now that I feel refreshed and caught up! There’s some exciting stuff going on this fall that I can’t wait to share – the main highlight being that I’m going to Kona! I’ll be working for the IRONMAN Foundation at the IRONMAN World Championships in a few weeks. I can’t wait to write about it here, but if you are on Instagram, LET’S CONNECT and you can follow along in real-time!

Did you get a break or vacation this summer? Where did you go?
